Who we are
Behind the Tables is an independent educational project about casino mathematics, psychology, and expected value. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use behindthetables.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, contact us at hello@behindthetables.org.
What we collect
- Account data — your email address and (for email sign-ups) a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile information from Google.
- Consent record — the date, version and exact wording of any marketing consent you give, so we can honour and evidence it.
- Usage analytics — anonymous session identifiers, pages viewed, referrers, and approximate location (country/region) derived from your IP address. See our cookie notice for details.
- Purchase data — if you buy access, our payment processor (Paddle) handles the transaction; we store a record of what you bought, when, and the amount.
Why we process it
- To create and secure your account.
- To deliver the educational content, documentary modules and further reading you signed up for.
- To send transactional emails (confirmations, password resets, receipts).
- Where you have opted in, to send occasional recommendations, sponsored content, and updates about new material.
- To understand how the site is used and improve the material.
Legal bases (UK/EU)
- Consent — for marketing and sponsored emails, and for non-essential cookies.
- Contract — to provide the account and any paid access you purchase.
- Legitimate interests — for aggregate analytics and to keep the service secure.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We rely on a small number of processors to run the service:
- Lovable Cloud / Supabase — hosting, authentication, database and email delivery.
- Paddle — payment processing (when applicable).
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Marketing emails
When you create an account you can opt in to receive emails from Behind the Tables about new articles, documentary releases, educational content, and occasional recommendations or sponsored content relevant to the subject matter. Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Cookies
We use a small number of first-party cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality (keeping you signed in), your consent preference, and privacy-friendly analytics. You'll see a cookie notice on your first visit.
Retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. Consent records are retained while the account exists so we can demonstrate your opt-in. Analytics events are retained in aggregate. You can request deletion at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@behindthetables.org.
Changes
If we update this policy we will change the date at the top and, where the changes are material, notify you by email or in-app.
